Hydrogen promotion in the Member states

In 2020, several EU member states announced national hydrogen strategies and hydrogen production goals. So far, France has announced the most ambitious goal with the renewable hydrogen electrolyzer capacity it want to achieve by 2030. It is followed by Spain, the Netherlands, Germany and Portugal.

Until 2020, no EU member state had introduced a specific mandate for hydrogen in transportation. The national renewable energy share targets were mainly met through biodiesel, HVO, bioethanol and, to a lesser extent, biogas and renewable electricity.
