3.B: Indiana

Indiana has one conventional gasoline formulation. In addition, federal reformulated gasoline (RFG) use is required in the northwestern corner of the state, as part of the Chicago/Milwaukee metro area spills over into Indiana (i.e. Lake and Porter counties). Adoption of RFG in those two counties is mandatory due to air quality non-attainment in the Chicago/Milwaukee metro area.

Fuel quality regulation is the responsibility of the state’s Department of Public Health. Additionally, the federal Environmental Protection Agency participates in the enforcement of RFG in the state.
