After 2016, the government phased out the subsidy for grain-based, non-grain based, and cellulosic ethanol production plants. Therefore, there is no subsidy for fuel ethanol production at present.

In September 2020, the National Energy Administration (NEA) announced that it was researching financial taxation policy with the finance department, to support cellulosic fuel ethanol production plants. As of March 2023, no cellulosic fuel ethanol subsidies had been announced.
