Regulatory framework
The following sections cover various aspects of the regulatory framework governing the manufacture and use of vehicles in the U.S. These regulations fall under three main categories:
    •Criteria for pollutant emissions control
    •Fuel economy – regulated from a GHG-emission-reduction angle
    •Fiscal policies, generally intended to promote and encourage fuel efficiency and alternative fuel technologies
    •The report then moves forward with an analysis of broad characteristics of the U.S. vehicle market
