Taxes
Gasoline is subject to multiple taxes:
•Excise tax – TWD 6,830 (USD 213.40)/kiloliters
•Sales tax – 5% of retail price
•Import tariff – 0 to 15% set for different countries
•Soil and groundwater pollution remediation fees – TWD 10 (USD 0.31)/kiloliters
•Air pollution control fees – TWD 200 (USD 6.25)/kiloliters
•Petroleum funds – prescribed by the central government
However, the central government does not disclose how much is raised by these taxes. Typically, taxes applied to gasoline account for around 65% of the retail price.
On November 30, 2021, the Executive Yuan reduced the excise tax on petroleum products by TWD 1 (USD 0.03)/liter, from December 1, 2021 to March 2022, primarily due to recent high crude petroleum prices.
