Burundi
Currently, Burundi has not established quantitative limits on air quality or vehicle exhaust emissions.
However, the Burundi Traffic Act, Chapter III, establishes qualitative requirements as follows:
•Article 134: “Motor vehicles must not emit fumes, noises or odors that may cause abnormal discomfort to people and property.”
•Article 135: “It is not allowed to put in circulation vehicles whose use exposes the environment to pollution, produces smoke, odors exceeding the normal tolerable threshold or provokes any other irremediable inconveniences for the people or the environment.”
Burundi is expected to adopt East African exhaust emissions standards in the future. No clear timeline has been announced yet regarding the adoption.
