Logistics and distribution
In Sri Lanka, fuel distribution (in bulk) is carried out by Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminals Limited (CPTSL), a joint venture between the Lanka India Oil Company (Lanka IOC) and the state-owned company Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC). CPTSL has 2 main terminals, one each in Kolonnwa and Muthurajawela, 11 bulk depots across the island and 1 inland rail side depot. Gasoline and diesel are mainly distributed using tanker trucks.
At the end of 2019, CPC had 850 dealers and 1,302 fuel stations across the country, and Lanka IOC had 202 fuel stations.
In April 2022, the government announced a ban on fuel stations selling fuel in a can and/or barrel, as a temporary measure to stop fuel hoarding.
