Sulfur
Sulfur is a key component that naturally occurs in crude oil. It reduces the capability of emission control systems and increases air pollution. High sulfur crude petroleum is more expensive to refine as well as needing a more complex refining process to reduce sulfur content in refined petroleum products. Therefore, sulfur is still found in finished petroleum products.
In Sudan, there is only one gasoline grade in terms of sulfur, with a limit of 350 mg/kg since 2015. All samples were compliant with the regulations and the average sulfur content of all samples was well below the regulatory limit from 2017 to 2019.
