In Bangladesh, two grades of gasoline currently sell in the domestic market; regular gasoline (petrol) and premium gasoline (octane). In 2021, Bangladesh has 15 refineries, including one state-owned and 14 private refineries, as reported in previous sections. However, the country’s gasoline consumption is not fulfilled by domestic production. In 2020, total gasoline consumption was about 50% more than production.

From 2010 to 2019, domestic gasoline production gradually increased from 97,000 tonnes in 2010 to 454,000 tonnes in 2019. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, gasoline production in 2020 dropped 4.3% compared to the previous year.
