Total Acid Number
The total acid number (TAN) is the quantity of base potassium hydroxide (KOH) which neutralizes the acid within a sample. TAN is not regulated for gasoline in Argentina; however, it is a measure of the corrosiveness of the hydrocarbons due to the presence of acids, particularly naphthenic acids. In this sense, the SGS Worldwide Fuel Survey (WWFS) results reveal a national average of 0.017 mg KOH/g in 2010-2021 in both types of gasoline, with two maximum values of 0.038 mg KOH/g in 2017 found in Chubut province and 2018 in Buenos Aires province respectively.
