Unless specific exemptions are granted, the U.S. baseline tariffs, or standard import duties, apply to fuels and energy products imported from African countries. Some African countries were initially subject to high reciprocal tariffs, higher rates imposed on countries that the U.S. considers to engage in unfair trade practices (greater than 10%). However, during the 90-day pause, the U.S. will temporarily reduce this rate to the standard 10% baseline.

The table below highlights key African countries originally subject to high reciprocal tariffs, their baseline tariff rates, and their share of U.S. imports in 2024. All other African countries are subject to a uniform tariff of 10%.
