On June 27, 2024, the Michigan legislature passed a with a USD 0.05 per gallon (USD 0.18 per liter) tax credit for E15 (gasoline blended with maximum 15% ethanol by volume).
This tax credit will provide fuel retailers who sell E15 with a USD 0.05 per gallon rebate on the blended fuel sold. Fuel retailers must be licensed by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to qualify for the refund.
The Michigan government aims to encourage fuel station owners to install more fuel pumps offering E15 gasoline. Currently, E15 is available at only 19 retail locations in the state, a negligible number considering that this blend is available at 3,400 stations across 33 U.S. states.
