Latin America: United Nations publishes strategy to accelerate the shift to a cleaner on-road diesel fleet

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) published the document Accelerating the Global Shift to a Cleaner On-Road Diesel Fleet on March 19, 2025, during the Climate and Clean Air 2025 Conference in Brasilia, Brazil.

This document outlines a strategy and plan for a global transition to fuels and vehicle standards meeting at least Euro 4/IV, with sulfur content of 50 mg/kg or less. This strategy supports a global shift to low-sulfur fuels, initially targeting a level of 50 mg/kg, with the expectation that most countries will eventually achieve a maximum of 10 mg/kg. The document advocates for adopting stricter vehicle emission standards in tandem with
