Czech Republic: EU RED III directive transposed with new GHG emissions targets

On May 1, 2025, the amended Act No. 201/2012 Coll. on Air Protection, which transposes the EU Directive (2023/2413) of the European Parliament and of the Council of October 18, 2023 amending Directive (EU) 2018/2001, Regulation (EU) 2018/1999 and Directive 98/70/EC as regards the promotion of energy from renewable sources, and repealing Council Directive (EU) 2015/652 (RED III), entered into force.

The Czech Republic chose the pathway of reducing the greenhouse gas (GHG) intensity in the transport sector to achieve the RED III targets. The amended act set an obligation for fuel suppliers to reduce GHG emissions per unit of energy contained in transport fuels supplied for a calendar year by a minimum of 11%
