On July 14, 2021, the European Commission published the Communication "Fit for 55" delivering the EU's 2030 climate target on the way to climate neutrality. It is accompanied by 15 legislative proposals across a range policy areas and economic sectors: climate, energy and fuels, transport, buildings, land use and forestry. The proposals are following:
Revision of the Regulation on the inclusion of greenhouse gas emissions and removals from land use, land use change and forestry
    Effort sharing Regulation
Amendment of the Renewable Energy Directive to implement the ambition of the new 2030 climate target
Amendment of the Energy Efficiency Directive to implement the ambition of the new 2030 climate target
ReFuelEU Aviation - sustainable aviation fuels
FuelEU Maritime - green European maritime space
Revision of the Directive on deployment of the alternative fuels infrastructure
Strategic rollout plan to support rapid deployment of alternative fuels infrastructure
Amendment of the Regulation setting CO2 emission standards for cars and vans
    Carbon border adjustment mechanism
Revision of the Energy Taxation Directive
Revision of the EU Emission Trading System
Notification of the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA)
Revision of the Market Stability Reserve
    Social Climate Fund
The EC indicated that the chosen policy mix is a careful balance between pricing, targets, standards and support measures. This is the first time that the EC proposes legislation that drives energy efficiency, CO2 reduction and promotes renewable energy use through a combination of measures: mandatory regulatory targets and market based mechanisms.
On July 27, 2021, SGS INSPIRE will hold a webinar reviewing the legislative proposals and their effect on climate, energy, fuels and transport sector. Please follow the link to attend the free webinar.
