SGS INSPIRE is the world’s largest digital pool of unique information on transportation, fuel quality and powertrain emissions. It provides regulatory and market intelligence with global outreach, technical expertise in the analysis of policies related to conventional and alternative fuels, a global digital fuel specifications database and worldwide fuel quality sample analysis.
As part of the Fuel Quality Roadmap project in Curaçao, from November 21-29, 2022, the SGS INSPIRE team traveled to the Caribbean island to carry out initial consultations with relevant stakeholders from the government and industry. The goal of this consulting study is to equip policymakers and fuel suppliers in Curaçao with technical and regulatory analysis to estimate the costs and benefits of improving fuel quality and introducing new fuel grades to the market. It will consider different international standards, sustainable development, and cost efficiency.
The SGS INSPIRE team held meetings with representatives of the Ministry of Economic Development, Ministry of Health, Environment and Nature, Ministry of Traffic, Transportation and Urban Planning, Curoil, Curaçao Refinery Utilities B.V., the Bureau Telecommunicatie en Post, Transport Union, Heavy Equipment Association, Gas Stations Association and Curaçao Car Dealers Association.
Visits were made to fuel storage facilities and gas stations to learn about the local fuel procurement process, infrastructure for fuel distribution and fuel quality control.
The project will be performed in an objective, non-biased manner, based on SGS INSPIRE’s expertise and knowledge of fuel quality, its impact on vehicle engines, their parts and exhaust emissions, fuel logistics and requirements in distribution.
The final report with the results of the investigation and recommendations will provide Curaçao’s authorities with in-depth analysis of all factors that need to be considered when establishing advanced fuel quality specifications in Curaçao.
