Asia Pacific: Fujairah Port follows the global trend to provide bio-based marine fuel

On June 6, 2025, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) bunkering company, Oil Marketing and Trading International (OMTI), completed the region’s first B30 (fuel containing up to 30% v/v biodiesel (fatty acid methyl ester or FAME)) marine bunkering operation at Fujairah Port.

With its first delivery of B30 marine fuel, Fujairah Port follows other ports in the Asia Pacific region in providing bio-marine fuel to help the maritime industry meet the latest greenhouse gas emissions targets published by the United Nations International Maritime Organization (see news article dated April 24, 2025).

The new targets are expected to be adopted in October 2025 and implemented from January 1, 2027.
