Quality specifications
Fuel and fuel additives sold and distributed in Australia are regulated under the Fuel Quality Standards Act 2000, amended in June 2014. The Act was created to:
•Reduce the level of pollutants and emissions arising from the use of fuels that may cause environmental and health problems
•Facilitate the adoption of better engine and emission control technology
•Allow more effective operation of engines
•Ensure that information about fuel is provided when the fuel is supplied
The fuel quality standards apply nationwide. However, states and territories can set their own standards in addition to the Australian standards.
