Quality monitoring
In India, the fuel quality monitoring system is not open to the public. No fuel quality monitoring results are made available to the public, except for news about problems in vehicles.
According to oil marketing companies, there is a fuel quality monitoring system in place. However, it is regulated by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MOPNG) with all results submitted to the ministry.
Occasionally, an independent non-governmental organization such as the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), which is based in New Delhi, does carry out independent inspection of fuel quality at fuel dispensing stations, oil depots and tank lorries. But also, only when problems occur, e.g. adulteration.
