Hydrocarbons

Gasoline contains hydrocarbon components such as aromatics, olefins and benzene, all of which are naturally present in crude petroleum.

The aromatics content of gasoline is directly linked to the air pollution emitted from a gasoline engine’s exhaust system. Thus, reducing aromatics content may lower an engine’s total hydrocarbon emissions. Reducing aromatics may also reduce emissions from benzene and toluene, but it could increase aldehyde emissions.

Viet Nam’s current gasoline specification, QCVN 1:2022/BKHCN, sets different limits for hydrocarbons depending on the Level of gasoline grades (see Table below).
