As of March 2024, gasoline is subject to a petroleum levy of PKR 60 (USD 0.22)/liter. The petroleum levy for the high-octane blending component remains at PKR 50 (USD 0.22)/liter. The government has proposed to increase the petroleum levy to PKR 100 (USD 0.36)/liter for fiscal year 2024-25.
Pakistan is applying for a larger loan from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) than the previous one. As part of this, the IMF demands the government increase gasoline’s general sales tax (GST) to 18%. The GST has been 0% since 2022.
However, no further update on the GST and gasoline levy is available at this stage.
