Ethanol
As of May 6, 2024, Pakistan’s government neither mandates nor bans the use of ethanol in gasoline. The country’s gasoline specification PS: 1430-2011 does not set any limits for ethanol. On the other hand, the specification for imported gasoline sets a maximum of 5% v/v of ethanol.
The SGS Worldwide Fuel Survey (WWFS) results from gasoline samples taken in 2010 to 2024 showed that almost no ethanol was detected in all samples, with the exception of several samples with the highest ethanol content of 0.9% v/v and 0.5% v/v in 2020 and 2021, respectively. The figure below shows the average ethanol content of gasoline in 2010-2024.
