Supply and demand
There is no publicly accessible and credible information on fuel production and consumption in Viet Nam. Domestic refinery production typically meets 60-70% of the country’s fuel demand. The remaining 30-40% is imported.
Most diesel is consumed by goods vehicles, power generators and off-road vehicles, including agricultural, construction and logistics equipment.
Industry data showed that 10 mg/kg sulfur diesel consumption was around 765 million liters in 2020. In 2021, the consumption was estimated at 840 million liters. While there is no information on total diesel consumption, SGS INSPIRE believes that 500 mg/kg sulfur diesel consumption should be much higher than that of 10 mg/kg sulfur diesel.
