Future HVO Feedstock

Palm oil-based feedstocks, oil and its by-product PFAD, and soybean oil are the most popular feedstocks for HVO consumed in the EU according to the member states’ reports to the European Environmental Agency. In Germany, Italy and Spain, around 95% of HVO was sourced from palm oil and soybean oil. In Sweden, 39% of HVO came from PFAD, a similar share came from animal fat and used cooking oil, and 5% from palm oil in 2017. PFAD is still double-counted in some member states, e.g. in the Netherlands. PFAD is single-counted in the UK. It is no longer double-counted in Denmark, France and Italy. From January 1, 2019, PFAD as a co-product is no longer allowed in Sweden.
