Recent developments
In 2023, the Egyptian gasoline specification (Egyptian Standard 3479/2023) was revised. Compared to the old standard (ES 3479/2010), the maximum sulfur content for the research octane number (RON) 92 gasoline grade changed from 500 mg/kg to 200 mg/kg.
The standard specifies four types of gasoline based on octane, but only three are usually found in fuel stations in the country (all those except with RON 90). For RON 80 and 90, this standard establishes a maximum sulfur content of 500 mg/kg. For RON 95, the maximum sulfur limit is 10 mg/kg.
