4.A: Alaska

Per an examination of Alaskan statutes and regulations, subsequently confirmed by contacts with local officials, Alaska does not feature a regulation governing fuel standards per se. [The ASTM D4814 Standard Specification for Spark-Ignition Engine Fuel volatility requirements are provided in Fig. 1 are presented for reference only: the state does not require compliance.] This is due to limited options in sourcing refined product to this relatively remote state, as well as the small size of the market itself. This does not, however, preclude some large fuel purchasers in state from demanding conformity with ASTM D4814; one example is the state government itself, which has in the past included conformity with ASTM D4814 in its published requests for gasoline tenders.
