U.S.: overview of gasoline specifications in PADD 5 states

This report provides an analysis of the fuel quality standards enforced in the West Coast of the U.S., as defined by the Petroleum Administration for Defense District (PADD) 5 region. PADD 5 comprises California, Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, Washington State, as well as Hawaii and Alaska.

PADD 5 states accounted for approximately 17% of the U.S.’s gasoline demand in 2019. Unlike the rest of country, PADD 5 states consume more reformulated gasoline. This is due to California’s sizeable share of the PADD 5 gasoline market because only reformulated gasoline can be lawfully sold in that state.
