Fuel ethanol capacity

Italy has bioethanol production capacity of 332,000 tonnes per year. Almost all of this capacity is used for industry and the food sector, rather than for road purposes.

In 2020, Versalis group Eni, the former Beta Renewables/Biochemtex facility in Crescentino should have restarted production of advanced (cellulosic) ethanol in Italy. Its total capacity is 40,000 tonnes of bioethanol, which would be destined for road transport.
