Supply and demand

Saudi Arabia is a gasoline-predominant country. Diesel is mostly used by light- and heavy-duty commercial vehicles, including vans, pickups and utility vehicles.

Diesel consumption is typically about 50% of the volume produced. The remaining volume is mostly exported.

In the period January-May 2023, diesel production was 27.2 billion liters and consumption was 14 billion liters.

In 2022, diesel production was 70.2 billion liters, an 8% increase on 2021. Domestic consumption was 33.3 billion liters, up by 14% on 2021. The figure below shows diesel production and consumption figures for Saudi Arabia in the period 2019-2022.
