Exports and imports

Saudi Arabia is a net exporter of crude petroleum and refined petroleum products. Diesel production is significantly higher than domestic demand. Hence it exports diesel, mostly to Africa, Europe, the U.S. and other countries within Asia.

In the period January-May 2023, Saudi Arabia exported 12.8 billion liters of diesel and imported 3.1 billion liters.

In 2022, the country exported 38.9 billion liters of diesel and imported 4.5 billion liters. The figure below shows exports and imports of diesel in Saudi Arabia in 2019-2022.
