The Commissioner General of the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) published new excise duty rates on fuels according to Legal Notice Nº 194 of 2020. In accordance with the Finance Act 2023, the value added tax (VAT) rates for gasoline and diesel have been revised from 8% to 16% from July 1, 2023. In addition, the rates of import decline fees have been revised from 3.5% to 2.5% and the rate of the railway development levy was reduced from 2% to 1.5%.
Taxes applied to diesel are shown in the table below in Kenyan shillings (KES) and U.S. dollars (USD) per liter.
