Feedstocks for biodiesel
The Italian energy company ENI has several in Kenya growing non-food agri-crops and processing the seeds for oil to be exported to ENI’s bio-refineries for biofuel production. In addition, collections of used cooking oils from restaurants in Kenya (and other nearby countries) are being transported to Mombasa port to be shipped to Italy for biofuel production. The first batch of oil seed (processed from castor, cotton and croton seeds) was from Kenya in 2022, with plans to increase the export total to 700,000 tonnes in 2026.
