Octane enhancers
Gasoline’s octane number depends on the crude petroleum quality and refinery process. To ensure that minimum octane number requirements are met, refiners may add octane enhancers or boosters.
Many types of octane enhancer are used by refiners:
    Organic:
Alcohol and ethers, including ethanol, methanol, methyl tert-butyl ether, ethyl tert-butyl ether, etc.
      Aromatic amines/oxygenates (burn ash-free)
    Non-organic:
      Metallic-based
This section provides an overview of octane enhancers found in Sudan’s gasoline samples.
