Refining
The Khartoum Refinery Company (KRC) is a joint venture company between the Sudanese Petroleum Corporation (SPC) and the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) with shares of 90% for SPC and 10% for CNPC, respectively. The refinery started production on May 16, 2000, with a total capacity of 95,000 barrels per day.
There is a smaller refinery, the Obeid refinery, with production capacity of 15,000 barrels per day. It produces diesel, kerosene, naphtha and fuel oil. It does not produce gasoline.
Sudan is also in the process of building a gas-to-liquid plant to utilize flared gas to produce liquid fuels.
