Octane enhancer
Depending on the quality of crude oil and refinery technology, gasoline produced by refineries may not meet minimum octane requirements. Refiners can improve gasoline’s octane number by adding octane enhancers. Several types of octane enhancer are commonly used in gasoline:
    •Organic:
      •Aromatic amines/oxygenates (burn ash-free)
      •Alcohol and ethers
    •Non-organic:
      •Metallic-based
