Total Acid Number
The total acid number (TAN) is the quantity of base potassium hydroxide (KOH) which neutralizes the acid within a sample. TAN is not regulated for gasoline in Colombia; however, it is a measure of the corrosiveness of the hydrocarbons due to the presence of acids, particularly naphthenic acids. In this sense, the SGS Worldwide Fuel Survey results reveal a national average of 0.017 mg KOH/g in 2010-2022 in both types of gasoline, with a maximum value of 0.053 mg KOH/g in 2017 found in Cartagena.
