GHG intensity reduction goal for energy used onboard

Regulation (EU) 2023/1805 on the use of renewable and low-carbon fuels in maritime transport, came into force from January 1, 2025. Note that Article 8 (which covers measures on monitoring plans) and Article 9 (which includes measures for modifications to monitoring plans) in this regulation will apply from August 31, 2024.

This new obligation applies to commercial ships above a gross weight of 5,000 tonnes, regardless of their flag.

The yearly average level of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions released by a ship should be reduced by the % factor set out in the table below. The limits are more stringent compared to those suggested by the European Commission (EC).
