Alcohol
Kuwait’s gasoline specification, KWS GSO 2196:2022, does not regulate the use of alcohol, including ethanol and methanol.
SGS Worldwide Fuel Survey (WWFS) results from gasoline samples taken in 2013-2023 showed some samples contained ethanol in varying degrees, although no trace of ethanol was found in 2021-2023. Since Kuwait does not blend ethanol, gasoline containing ethanol was likely to have been imported.
With regards to methanol, most gasoline samples did not contain any. However, some samples contained methanol of up to 0.22% v/v. The figure below shows the average ethanol content in gasoline samples in 2013-2023.
