Hydrogen consumption in transport
In 2022, the total demand for hydrogen reached 8.2 million tonnes based on the latest available quantifiable data. Notably, the largest share of hydrogen demand came from refineries, accounting for 57% of total hydrogen use in Europe, followed closely by the ammonia industry, which contributed 24% to the overall demand. It is worth mentioning that emerging applications for clean hydrogen, such as mobility or e-fuels, currently represent only a small fraction of the market.
