Recent developments
In January 2024, South Korea’s government implemented a 4% v/v mandate for biodiesel. Also in January, it approved the use of alternative feedstock (non-petroleum), including pyrolysis oil, to produce low-carbon, eco-friendly refined petroleum products (see news article dated ).
In October 2022, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) increased its biodiesel blending mandate for 2030 from 5% v/v to 8% v/v, of which 5% v/v will be fatty acid methyl ester and 3% v/v will be renewable diesel. In addition, a marine biofuel mandate is expected to kick in in 2025.
