Japan: METI released action plan to support E10 and E20 fuel adoption

On June 10, 2025, the Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry published an Action plan to expand the blending of ethanol in gasoline. The plan introduces a series of strategic measures to support the development and market readiness of E10 (conventional gasoline containing up to 10% v/v of fuel ethanol) and E20 ( conventional gasoline containing up to 20% v/v fuel ethanol) fuels in the country.

This policy follows an earlier announcement made by the Japanese government in November 2024, which set formal targets to introduce E10 fuel nationwide by 2030, and E20 fuel by 2040.
