There is no publicly accessible and credible information on fuel production and consumption in Viet Nam. Domestic refinery production typically meets 60-70% of the country’s fuel demand. The remaining 30-40% is imported.
According to the Domestic Market Department, Ministry of Industry and Trade, RON 95-III (RON 95 with a maximum sulfur limit of 150 mg/kg) has become more popular, accounting for 70%, with E5 RON 92 making up the remaining 30% of total gasoline demand. In 2018-2020, RON 95 typically accounted for 60% of total gasoline demand.
News articles stated that 1.7 million tonnes of gasoline were consumed in 2022, a total about 2.3 times higher than it was in 2021.
