Legislative Process and its Outcome Summary

E15 was allowed in the U.S. by an EPA regulation in October 13, 2010, when they granted a waiver allowing the use of E15 in light-duty vehicles for the model-year 2007 (MY2007) and newer. This waiver was extended in January 2011 for MY2001 to MY2006. However, the first pump offering E15 was not installed until 2012. It was installed in Kansas, one of the states located in the so-called “Corn Belt”, the largest ethanol producing states in the U.S.

The use of E15 has been, however, limited in the U.S. because of RVP specification limits. RVP measures volatility, which is of great concern during the ozone-control season (from June 1 to September 15 for retailers delivery), in many states.
