Imports and Exports

Despite being an oil producer with large oil reserves, about 70% of Libya’s fuel demand is imported - mainly from the Netherlands - and 30% locally produced. This is due to the ongoing conflict, creating frequent suspension of the oil field and refining activities. Furthermore, smuggling contributes to the shortage of fuel and closure of gas stations, particularly in the west of the country. In some regions, diesel cannot be found in gas stations.
