Octane Enhancers

This section examines the use of two classes of octane enhancers in Libya: MTBE and Manganese.

In the figure below it can be observed that Libya used manganese in the past, which was confirmed by the sampling in 2016; however the most recent sampling from 2019 does not show any traces of manganese in sampled gasoline. In Libya, gasoline specifications do not set any limits for manganese content. As of 2019, MTBE concentration used in gasoline average has been a bit over 5% v/v. The Ras-Lanuf refinery produces MTBE in Libya since the late 2000´s.
