Recent developments
In mid-2023, Pakistan’s government approved an import duty exemption for machinery imported by refining companies for refinery upgrading projects. This exemption is expected to incentivize refineries to produce ultra-low sulfur fuels that enable the implementation of Euro 5/V and Euro 6/VI exhaust emission standards.
In mid-2020, the Directorate General of Oil, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources, issued specifications for imported “Euro 5 diesel” and officially asked the Oil & Gas Regulatory Authority, the Hydrocarbon Development Institute of Pakistan and the oil industry to implement this import specification, effective from January 1, 2021.
