Recent developments
In January 2023, the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization published ultra-low sulfur diesel specification SASO 844:2023 – Clean Diesel Fuels (Ultra Low Sulfur). This specification superseded SASO 844:2021 and changed the test methods. There are no changes to the limits, for any properties.
Moreover, as part of the , Saudi Arabia plans to increase the share of renewable energy for electricity generation to 50% in the energy mix and to displace more than 1 million barrels of liquid fuels per day across three main sectors – power plants, industrial and agriculture – by 2030.
