After the delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Bapco Modernization Program, a major expansion and upgrading project, is expected to be commissioned in 2024. By then, SGS INSPIRE expects the quality of gasoline produced by the refinery to improve, in line with the Euro 5-enabling gasoline quality.

SGS INSPIRE does not expect Bahrain to add bioethanol to gasoline soon. However, refiners may look into it as a way to reduce carbon emissions related to the use of fossil fuels, and to improve octane at the same time.
