Countries in the Latin America region are members of the United Nations International Maritime Organization (IMO). Thus, they mainly follows the IMO’s regulations.

At present, there are no regulations on the use of ammonia as an alternative marine fuel in the region. Nevertheless, the national green hydrogen development strategies of Chile and Uruguay mention the possibility of using green ammonia in the maritime transport sector.
