Legislation impacts on bio-based diesel and feedstocks
Following on the active EU legislations described in this report, the impact on feedstocks for bio-based diesel production can be summarized as follows:
    •The EU legislations are driving the demand for feedstocks with high greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions savings (such as used cooking oil (UCO) and animal fat, both with a GHG emission saving above 70%)
    •Waste and residuals feedstocks are being promoted through the double counting of its energy content for biofuel generated from these sources (RED II, Annex IX, part A feedstocks)
    •An increase for low indirect land use change (ILUC) biofuels generated from feedstocks grown within the EU and without expansion of agricultural land (e.g. sunflower oil)
    •A phase out of high indirect land use change
